What is the ICL?

Staar ICL

Visian ICL Performed in Detroit by the Laser Eye InstituteThe ICL (implantable Collamer lens) is an implantable contact lens. It provides another option for vision correction in patients with high myopia, or those patients who are not candidates for Laser Vision Correction. Unlike an IOL used to treat cataracts the ICL does not replace your natural lens, instead it sits between the iris and the natural lens, and is inserted by a small slit made by the surgeon. The use of Collamer material for the design of the lens means that it is invisible once placed in the eye and is bio-compatible with the eye. In addition the collagen material is extremely bio-compatible.

Why chose the ICL?

The main benefits to selecting an ICL procedure for vision correct are: removable and wide range of treatment. The Staar ICL is a reversible procedure (unlike LASIK) it can be reversed if needed by simply removing the implant. The ICL is able to treat wider ranges of patients not treatable with LASIK. This opens up a whole new world of vision correction for patients who thought they were not candidates in the past.
